Sacramento's origin began with a River. Then lead the world to search for ultimate riches with the Gold Rush and to the first rush of California Dreamin' with the reclamation of the Swamplands Act. Later Sacramento lead the way connecting Americans through the completion of the Transcontinental Continental Railroad and finally illuminating the world with the first light parade. Sacramento is home to the Capital and SHS.  SHS is Sacramento's oldest history organization that advances preservation, education and civic engagement goals in pursuit of our mission: That the future generations may learn from Sacramento's past.
