Early Sikh Immigrants in the Sacramento Valley and Northern California: What They Did Here and What They Are Doing Now

Join the Sacramento Historical Society on Tuesday, February 23 for an evening exploring the history of Sikh immigration to the Sacramento Valley and Northern California and the generations who have helped shape the region.

Sacramento-area attorney Kulvinder Singh, a regular contributor to local historical societies who has written extensively about Sikh history in Placer County and throughout the United States, will lead us through more than a century of Sikh history in Northern California.

Beginning around 1899, Sikhs from Punjab in British India began arriving, working, and settling in the Sacramento Valley. Their stories span generations—from early immigrants who built new lives in California while advocating for Indian independence to those who became farmers, professionals, community leaders, and elected officials.
