About the Event

Since its first meeting in 1850, more than 4,500 people have served in the California state legislature, writing laws and building a government for a rapidly growing and changing population. Alex Vassar, who works as the Communications Director for the California State Library, has spent more than twenty years studying the people of the state legislature. From miners and merchants to poets and video game creators, California’s lawmakers have been many things… but never boring!


Speaker Biography

Alex Vassar began his role as Communications Manager for the California State Library in May 2017.


Prior to his arrival at the Library, Alex worked for the State of California since 2007 when he was selected as a California Senate Fellow. Since then, he worked for both houses of the California Legislature and the State Board of Equalization before joining the California State Library.
