About the Event
The African immigrants in Sacramento represent the rich diversity of African blacks, including the generations and migrations of people of African descent in America. The lecture will highlight key patterns of the immigration and demographics of the Africans in America, post slavery, key social values and norms for community engagement, and organizing, and recommending the areas or opportunities for better understanding and collaboration in Sacramento’s rich, diverse history.
Professor Ernest E. Uwazie holds a Ph.D. in Justice Studies from Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona, and graduated from the Harvard Law School Mediation and Negotiation Program. He joined the Sacramento State criminal justice faculty in 1991, and served as the immediate past Chair (2017-2023) of the Division of Criminal Justice. Since 1996, he has served as the founder and director of the Center for African Peace & Conflict Resolution (CAPCR), and convenor/organizer of the Annual Africa & Diaspora conference since 1992.…
