A close personal friend of Hiram Johnson, and William Jennings Bryan, his European articles inspired our City of Trees street canopy, and helped break the Central/Southern Pacific monopoly in supporting the arrival of Western Pacific, ultimately succeeded by his influential daughter Eleanore.
